The Long-Awaited Wilbur Taco Co. Has Finally Landed in Liberty Village

Liberty Villiage Rachel Currey June 22, 2026

Heard there's a new taco spot drawing a crowd on Atlantic Avenue? Wilbur Taco Co., the long-anticipated second location of King West favourite Wilbur Mexicana, has quietly opened at 50 Atlantic Ave, and it's fast becoming one of Liberty Village's most talked-about additions.

Falling for the neighbourhood along with the tacos? Read our full Liberty Village guide.

A decade in the making

Since 2015, Wilbur Mexicana has been a King West institution, built by brothers Will and Baird Cumberland alongside co-founder Steve Chan. After ten years of steady lineups at 552 King West, the team finally expanded, and they chose Liberty Village for the encore. The new location trades the original's clean, lab-inspired look for something with more personality: corrugated steel and stucco outside, checkerboard floors, subway tile, and a wall of vinyl announcing what's spinning that day. It reads less like a quick-service counter and more like a place you'll want to settle into.

What's on the menu

If you loved the original, you'll feel right at home. The menu is nearly identical: tacos, burritos, quesadillas and bowls, proteins running from carne asada and carnitas to Baja fish and shrimp, and the famous salsa and hot sauce bar with heat levels from mild pico to fiery ghost. Something-for-everyone menus get dismissed as a cliché, but this one actually is, and it works for a ten minute lunch or a two hour catch-up equally well.

More from Liberty Village:

Margaritas, a patio, and happy hour

Here's where Wilbur fits the neighbourhood perfectly: the tacos come paired with margaritas, a patio, and a happy hour, a combination practically engineered for Liberty Village summers. Taco Tuesday with friends, a post-work unwind, a slow Saturday, it slots into the area's social rhythm without trying.

What a new anchor means for Liberty Village

We pay close attention to openings like this one. When an established, well-run brand plants its second flag in a neighbourhood, that's a vote of confidence in the area's foot traffic, spending power and long-term momentum, made by people who studied the numbers before signing a lease. Liberty Village has spent years maturing from former industrial land into one of Toronto's most complete downtown communities, and every opening of this calibre confirms the trajectory.

The final takeaway

Wilbur Taco Co. is a great addition: great food, a relaxed patio, and the kind of energy that makes a neighbourhood feel alive. If you live here, you have a new favourite to audition. If you've been watching Liberty Village from the outside, this is one more reason the watching usually turns into moving.

Has Wilbur got you imagining this neighbourhood as home, or wondering what your place here is worth now? Let's talk.
