The Best Brunch in Etobicoke: Five Spots Worth Getting Up For

We did sandwiches. We did ice cream. We did patios and fish and chips. Brunch was inevitable. So here they are, five Etobicoke spots we would happily line up for on a Sunday, spread across the neighbourhoods so you are never far from a decent eggs benedict. Yes, we probably left off your favourite. Tell us and we will eat there too. It is a tough job.

Sunny Morning, The Queensway

The classic. Sunny Morning at 1602 The Queensway, in the plaza across from Canadian Tire, is the kind of breakfast and lunch place where the menu does not try to reinvent anything and does not need to. Omelettes, benedicts, pancakes, French toast, done properly and in generous portions. Weekends get busy, which around here is its own recommendation.

Toast on Bloor, The Kingsway

Toast sits at 3317 Bloor Street West, a short walk from Islington station, and does all-day breakfast from 8 in the morning until 3. The French toast gets most of the attention, the steak and eggs is the sleeper pick, and there is a breakfast poutine for the ambitious. It is a small room with a loyal following, so aim for a weekday if you hate waiting.

Kitchen on Sixth, New Toronto

A British gastropub on Lake Shore at Sixth Street, and the weekend brunch is the reason Kitchen on Sixth makes this list. Full English territory, comfort classics, proper cocktails, and a 40 seat patio for the summer months. It anchors a stretch of Lake Shore Boulevard in New Toronto that keeps getting better, and it is exactly the kind of local that makes people fall for this neighbourhood.

Huevos Gourmet, Humber Bay Shores

The most interesting brunch in Etobicoke might be Mexican. Huevos Gourmet at 160 Marine Parade Drive does handmade tortillas, fresh salsas, and huevos rancheros that make the usual bacon and eggs feel like a missed opportunity. Open daily from 8 until mid afternoon, and on a clear morning the walk along the waterfront afterward is half the point.

The Old Mill, The Kingsway

For the occasion brunches, birthdays, visiting parents, closing day celebrations, there is the Old Mill at 21 Old Mill Road. The weekend brunch buffet at the century-old inn beside the Humber is a west end institution, and the setting does a lot of work: stone walls, gardens, the river below. Book ahead. Everyone else's visiting parents had the same idea.
